The one-sided reporting on violence in Amsterdam last week is a perfect example of how the international media is a Western cultural product. It fails to give nuance and pushes specific agenda.
Hello Tom, while our scope is "well-defined", there was a reason the author Patrick Gathara opened the piece with CNN's coverage of the lead-up to the 2013 elections in Kenya. For those of us who live on the African continent, we can draw parallels to the so-called "Amsterdam pogrom" to our own experiences without having to contort ourselves as you so eloquently put it. Africans are neither stupid, vapid, nor infantile as to not see patterns in the kind of reporting that is sometimes packaged as fact in the Global North. Thank you for commenting.
The Continent seems to be really contorting itself to find ways of writing about Gaza despite the paper's well-defined scope.
